Description of
American Girls Premiere

American Girls screen shot Published by: The Learning Company
Age Range: 7 - 12 (pre K - 2nd grade)
Year: 1998

The American Girls Premiere is an environment for planning, creating, and viewing on-screen "plays." The program is based on the characters, events, and historical periods in the popular American Girls book series, published by Pleasant Company; children need not be familiar with the books to appreciate the software. Children develop all the dialogue and narration in their plays, and they "direct" their plays by choosing characters to enact them, actions for those characters, and background scenes, music, costumes, props, and sound effects. As children create their plays, they have opportunities to use mathematics as a tool for planning, timing, and coordinating sequences of music, actions, and dialogues.
