It fascinates me to see what software designers believe constitute "What girls want." What is really "what girls want"? What will encourage girls to challenge the "I hate math. I am afraid of technology" mentality which hobbles them in todays technology-dependent job market?
I grew up with those beliefs too; I never realized how untrue they were until I entered the job market and was forced to confront them. Even attending Wellesley didn't help; although the single-sex environment is helpful in many other ways, it doesn't challenge self-tracking started in early childhood. The avoidance of math and technology is too engrained.
Now, I listen to teenage girls saying "Oh, I'm so bad at math" and I cringe. These attitudes need to be changed, and fast, or else our girls will be left out in the cold.
